This bag caused two messes in my kitchen. First, even though I thought I very carefully sealed the bag, when I picked it up to move it into the fridge, the seal broke and the brine went everywhere. Two hours later, after having cleaned out three kitchen drawers and washed everything in each drawer, I made a new batch of brine and added the brine and the turkey to the bag and got it into the frige. Next morning - the brine had leaked from the bag seams and the brine and turkey juice were just hanging out with the turkey in my produce bin. Another mess to clean up. I'd recommend staying away from this bag and looking for one with a higher construction quality.

We have been brining our turkey and chicken meals for several years and after a couple of disasterous efforts with cooking and garbage bags had had good success used brining bags from Williams Sonoma. For the first time, I just used this bag to prepare for our Thanksgiving turkey and while it was better than any homemade contraption, it is definitely inferior to the Williams Sonoma bag. It only has one seal vs. two and it does not have any kind of clip/seal to ensure it is closed. because of the poor seal, we ended up with about 1/5 of our brine solution on our cabinents and floor and the turkey didn't really stay covered with brine when we put it in the fridge. I also felt compelled to put on 5 or 6 clips in the fridge to ensure it wouldn't leak over night.Updated comments: the morning of Thanksgiving, I transferred the turkey from the fridge in a large bowl...when I lifted the bag, the seam of the bag split and the remaining brine (now mixed with raw turkey juice shot another 2-3 quarts across our kitchen...this time soaking me and our dog. I moved my rating to 1 star because if you are going to spend the time and money to brine a turkey, you are better off getting a higher quality brining bag.

just bought this at Bed Bath & Beyond for $4.99 on recommendation from a customer, who said the bag was excellent. You will want to buy two, since there is only one per box.only the best cooks use a brining bag for their turkey... just be sure that your turkey wasn't already treated with salt (like a self-basted or kosher turkey)... otherwise use the basic recipe ratio of 1 cup kosher salt to 1 gallon water when preparing the brining solution. Kosher salt is preferable since it doesn't contain the additives that are found in table salt. if you use table salt, reduce the measure to 1/2 cup.Here are several nice instructional videos if you've never heard of brining a turkey, but you can simply search on key words "video how to brine a turkey":[...]
